Plans to set up a medical city in Oman

The Apex Medical Group said on Saturday it has signed its first land acquisition deal as part of plans to set up a $1bn medical city in Oman.

Company founder and president Dr Abdullah Al-Joaib said an agreement had been signed with Oman authorities for the integrated medical tourism complex in Salalah, which aims to put Oman on the global medical tourism map.

BP into Oman's gas sector

MUSCAT — UK oil giant BP has lined up a $15 billion investment into of Oman in recognition of the potential of its gas sector and as part of a significant push into gas in the Middle East.

This was disclosed by Dr Jonathan Evans, BP’s General Manager for Oman, in a recent interview with the Energy Exchange in which he discussed BP’s position in the tight gas-rich country.

HSBC in talks with OIB for a possible merger

MUSCAT/DUBAI (Reuters) - HSBC (HSBA.L) is in talks with Oman International Bank OIB.OM over a sale of its operations in the Gulf Arab state, a source at the Omani bank said, as the British lender looks to streamline its Middle East presence.

Oman Air, the national airline of Oman, has won the Best In-flight Connectivity and Communications award for its in-flight mobile phone and Wi-Fi connectivity at the recent Passenger Choice Awards.

The awards highlight the aviation industry’s innovation, products and services and are organised by Apex, the Airline Passenger Experience Association. Each award is determined solely by the votes of the travelling public and voting is tracked by the Neilson Company.

“Oman Air is committed to being at the forefront of technological innovation within the civil aviation industry and we are delighted that our pioneering in-flight mobile phone and Wi-Fi connectivity has been recognised with this prestigious award,” said Abdulaziz Al Raisi, chief officer, Management Affairs.

National carrier Oman Air won the 'Airline of the Year Award' at France’s Laurier d’Or du Voyage d’Affaires. A press release said that the Laurier d’Or du Voyage d’Affaires, hosted by IFTM-Top Resa in partnership with deplacements.com and Thalys, recognises the best in business travel products and services. Oman Air won the gold award in the ‘Airline of the Year’ category, ahead of Qatar Airways and Korean Airlines.

Sept. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Two U.S. nationals held in Iran on charges of espionage and illegal entry into the country were freed from prison and left from Mehrabad International Airport in the Iranian capital on a flight to Oman, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

عندما كتبت مقالة بعنوان (عين على الديمقراطية والطيور المهاجرة) والتي امتدحت فيها الكفاءات العمانية في وسائل الإعلام الخارجية، كان للزميل عثمان بن عبدالله الزدجالي –وهو زميل قاريء ومتابع– كان له وجهة نظر حول برنامج "عين على الديمقراطية"، قائلا إن الديمقراطية التي أتت بها أمريكا هي الديمقراطية التي نشاهدها الآن في العراق وهي الديمقراطية نفسها التي يروج لها اليحيائي، وكان لعثمان ملاحظات عديدة حول البرنامج وقناة الحرة ومحمد اليحيائي وبالتأكيد حول السياسات الأمريكية.

Guyana submitted its Continental Shelf claim

Guyana on Wednesday announced that it has asked the United Nations Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf to extend the South American nation's continental shelf in the hope of tapping into oil and gas reserves there.

Foreign Minister, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett said the submission made Tuesday seeks to add another 150 nautical miles from the 200 nautical mile outer limit of Guyana’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
