Oman Air the winner of the World's Best Business Class Airline Seat award

By A Staff Reporter - MUSCAT — Oman Air was named winner of the World's Best Business Class Airline Seat award at the 2011 World Airline Awards, in a ceremony held in the French Air and Space Museum at the Paris Air Show.

The national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman was presented with the Best Business Class Seat award at a ceremony attended by more than 50 airlines. The awards are based on the views of nearly 20 million air passengers, who were surveyed by Skytrax over the last year. The runners-up in this Best Business Class Airline Seat category are Singapore Airlines taking 2nd place in the category, ahead of Qatar Airways in 3rd position.

The most relevant laws, regulations and decrees in the field of banking, finance and related areas in the UAE are the Central Bank of Oman Banking Law, Commercial Companies Law promulgated by Royal Decree 55/90 and Money Laundering Law promulgated by Royal Decree 34/2002.

Paul Le Guen named as the new coach of the Oman national team

Experienced French coach Paul Le Guen, who led Cameroon at the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, was today named as the new boss of the Oman national team, officials said.

Le Guen succeeds compatriot Claude Leroy who was sacked after Oman's poor performance at the last Gulf Cup.

The new coach will arrive in the country on 27 June before Oman's friendlies against Kuwait and Lebanon.

Those matches are part of the preparation for qualifying for the next FIFA World Cup with the Asian zone kicking off later this year.

MUSCAT: In a major decision, the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) yesterday allowed commercial banks operating in the country to open windows offering Islamic banking products.

إبن لادن نال ما تمنى

عندما سمع الحارس السابق لأسامة بن لادن تفاصيل اللحظات الأخيرة في حياة زعيم تنظيم القاعدة عاد به الزمن ليتذكر تلك اللحظات التي اخبره فيها الراحل بالطريقة التي يريد أن يفارق بها الحياة.

وقال ناصر البحري لصحيفة "ديلي ميرور" البريطانية اليوم إن الأمر يرجع إلى شهر أغسطس عام 1998 بعدما فجر تنظيم القاعدة سفارتين أمريكيتين حيث أدرك بن لادن آنذاك أنه أكثر المطلوبين لدى واشنطن. وأضاف البحري إن "الشيخ" سلمه خلال تواجدهما في كهف بأفغانستان مسدسا به طلقتان وقال له انه في حال أحاط به الأمريكيون أن يطلق الطلقتان على رأسه حتى لا ينتهي به الحال سجينا في الولايات المتحدة "فأنت الآن مكلف بقتلي".

A new standalone Islamic bank in the sultanate needs the Central Bank of Oman new set of regulations.

Analysts say that the banking industry in Oman can look forward to taking advantage of the 'potential' of Islamic finance after it was approved by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

With existing banks now able to provide Islamic banking products, the sultanate will be able to take its share of an industry estimated to be currently worth US$20bn worldwide.

Along with the decision to allow Islamic finance products, the green light was also given to set up an Islamic bank in the sultanate. However, bankers feel that a new standalone Islamic bank in the sultanate would take shape only after the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) comes out with a new set of regulations.
